Girlfriend of my deceased father will not give us his personal property from apartment they moved into in July?

of 2008 in los angeles county in california. all of the things he bought were kept in the one room he stayed in (with her). before he died he told us kids (4) it was ours, and even made a will out but didnt list the property specifically. now she refuses to give it to us. does she have rights to keep his property as a GIRLFRIEND? and i'm talking clothes; electronic equipment; tv's; stereos, bed and dresser; etc. by the way we havent opened probate because his estate is less than $100,000, therefore, the only paperwork we are using to get it is the affidavit of small estate...
